I’ve always been a crafty person, dabbling in different art mediums, but around a decade ago, I joined my child in a craft project at his preschool, soaking butterfly shaped diffusing paper in watercolors. This magic paper had the consistency of coffee filters and became densely saturated with color. I was hooked and convinced the manufacturer to sell it to me in bulk, rather than hearts and butterflies. I’ve been using it exclusively in my collages ever since.

Conceptually, my work focuses on relationships; human, mathematical, and linguistic. I think a lot about balance and how people juggle responsibilities and expectations with limited support systems. I also spend a good chunk of time on a cheeky series about Lesbian sex and math, though it‘s abstract enough it doesn’t quite qualify as NSFW.

Art is my favorite form of communication. Nothing and everything is lost in translation. If you’d like to see more, you can find pieces from my Circular Relativity series in the gallery collection at 2358 MRKT Gallery in the Castro district of San Francisco. I have a portfolio website www.meganlevineart.com but I haven’t updated it in ages. It might be a little taboo to fold my art practice into my business, but the art world is not accommodating for single parents and I have to make my own rules. When my kids are grown, I can jump on a more traditional path, but for now, I’m going to keep making art and sharing it however I want.
